<That 'Munj' is/was not just worn by Hindus, kunbis, Render or Bamonns.

I remember wearing it too. Adults or older people may have worn it to secure their Kastti or potonnem or langotti but dont know why boys wear it, may be it was just a tradition or may be to secure our 'ched'di' or 'kalsao'. I remember wearing it (Munj) even in late 80s>

My dears,

We will do well to remember WHAT was being contested about the Amazing Facts snippet.

NOT the fact that anybody (esp in salcete) used a Thread to secure whatever

Rather, the CEREMONY being "Hindu" as opposed to "Hindu Brahmin" + few exceptions.

<* What is the Hindu thread ceremony performed on a boy entering adolescence called? Munj >

The point being made is that (exceptions aside) ONLY "Brahmin" Hindu boys (and in some areas ...girls) underwent that ceremony.

You might as well know of the problems that the CKP folks historically faced from the Kokanastha Brahmins with regard to the MUNJ CEREMONY in Maharashtra.

Prabhus like Balaji Chitnis (well know case) were denied permission to perform the MUNJ CEREMONY because they were NOT considered to be "Brahmins"
