Goa: MP Churchill Alemao Threatens to Quit Congress over Mopa Airport Issue

>From Sanjay Borkar for Daijiworld News Network - Goa

Margao, Nov 23: ‘If the union government takes the final decision of
building the Mopa Airport in Goa, I will quit the Congress Party on the same
day’ said Lok Sabha member Churchill Alemao, while addressing the
presspersons on Mopa Airport issue.

In response to the statement made by state chief minister Pratapsingh Rane
on Tuesday at the cabinet meeting, saying that the existing airport at
Dabolim in Goa would not be closed after building a new one at Mopa, Alemao
alleged that the chief minister's decision of keeping both airports open is
absolutely false as the state government had no authority to take decisions
about airports.

The chief minister does not have the authority to take decision about
airports. They are trying to win the support of the people and with this
motive they are fooling the people. If the Mopa airport project is realized,
the tourism of Goa will surely collapse, and Maharashtra state will get the
benefit of the same, according to Alemao.

He also said that If Congress wanted to rule in Goa further, they would have
to scrap the decision of the Mopa Airport or Goan people would show them
their place in politics in next election.

To awaken the people about the Mopa Airport and to get the support of the
people on that issue, Alemao will hold a public meeting on November 26, at
Dharmapur-Naveli.

He also dared the chief minister to proclaim his decision at a public
meeting. Whether he supported Mopa Airport or not, the meeting will be held
on November 26, Alemao said further.

Alemao also said that he will debate on this issue in the forthcoming
Parliament session and will try to get the union government's decision of
building the Mopa Airpo scrapped
