Hello Santosh,

Sorry to "muck-up" your (and other Goans') knowledge on Goa's Inquisition. I
expected that you would step to the plate questioning my "research" without you
doing any of your own.:=)) Instead you rely on some fictional novels and
web-articles. Contrary to your statement, Alfred DeMello's web-article has no
references. Neither did he mention the source of his information or his facts.
But of course you believe him, because that fits your liking / bias.

As far as scientific research in general is concerned, it is very likely I have
been published in more peer-reviewed medical journals than you my friend. And I
have participated in designing more national and international randomized
clinical trials in cancer that you will ever dream. So do not tell me about
your knowledge of research and its methodology.

Poile svater, you state that my write-up does not contradict Alfred DeMello.
(see your quote below). Magir, you contradict yourself with "Gilbert is
revising what is known about de Orta". (see your quote below). So with such
inconsistencies ani ghuspot in your observation and conclusions, I will not
comment on your conclusions or opinions.:=))

You and others had no data on Goa's Inquisition when I requested such data from
you and them. Of course that did not and does not prevent you from expressing
your considerate opinion on the subject.
The article I wrote was about Dr. Garcia de Orta and not on his sister.
Please do not take this response personally.
Finally if you want to know more about the social life in Europe during the
European inquisition, I suggest you read among others a book on the period and
life of Girolamo Savonarola - the Florentine Friar who was burned in the Piazza
della Signora. There is more to read than cyber-Goa. :=))
Kind Regards, GL

Santosh:
I don't see any real historical facts in Gilbert's account that are at variance
with those of Alfredo, and no substantiation whatsoever in it.

My view is research is best left to qualified researchers. People who are not
schooled and trained in it should not attempt to masquerade as experts, and
dispense their opinions willy-nilly. They end up mucking up the state of
understanding in any field i.e. if unsuspecting lay folk take them seriously.
In the present case I submit that Gilbert is revising what is known about de
Orta, and also what is known
about the inquisition. Please note that Gilbert did not tell us that de Orta's
sister was burned at the stake, and gave us his own speculative reasons for the
disinterment and burning of his bones several years after his death.
Cheers,
