Dear all,
the 1st Young Goans International Essay Contest is moving forward and the
jury is now reading and evaluating the 23 total entries we have got, from
several countries, most from youth in Goa itself. The members of the jury
are:
Ben Antao
Ethel da Costa
Lino Leitao
Victor Rangel-Ribeiro
Wendell Rodricks
The contest is organized by Young Goans International, a global platform
slowly gaining shape, and by the Goan Observer, the "fastest growing weekly
of Goa". It has also the support of several other individuals and
associations, including the Worldwide Goan Alliance of Rene Barreto, and Goa
Sudharop, surely diaspora Goans' most famous NGO/network.
I had a glimpse at all and I can surely say that some are amazing essays on
"WHAT I CAN DO FOR GOA". So the first impression is very positive. It is now
up to the jury to decide who ate the best young writers with the most
interesting and original ways of contributing to or thinking about Goa. I
hope that by the end of this month we can make the announcement. We are then
thinking of eventually having a small function to deliver the prizes and
discuss global Goan youth.
I would like to especially thank the jury for vilunteering for this noble
function. I am sure many of the prticipants were attracted by your respected
literary names and also by the great prizes you have donated.
Finally, a big thank you also to all those who have promoted this contest,
specially the media and ll of you working for /members of Goan associations
and Goan mailing-lists worldwide. Deu borem korum. In Goa itself it was
announced in the Herald, besides the Observer. Vital in that promotion
campaign was Rene Barreto who spread the word for us to all corners of the
globe.
Yet, this is just the beginning. Please continue spreading the word. The
easiest way is to forward the link of your mailing-list or our e-mail
address to young Goans worldwide. That will allow us to expand our platform
and database and start working on other events also.
