All Goa Home Garden Competition 2006
The 11th annual All Goa Home Garden Competition, to be judged on 08 January in
South Goa and 15 January, in North Goa, will begin the events for the next
calendar year. This is BSG's event together with the people of Goa. Together
Everyone Achieves More.
The Home Gardens are judged in two categories: 1.Amateur gardens entirely
designed and planted by the family using only labour, where needed and
2.Professionally designed, laid out and/or maintained gardens.
The gardens will be judged for the aesthetics, compatability with the
architecture/facade of the house, design and layout, colour scheme, range of
plants, health of plants,cleanliness of the garden, special features [like
pools, lotus pond, fountain,orchidarium, net-house, conservatory, etc,],
paths, lawns and fences. Bonus points will be awarded for recycling/re-use of
waste water and garden/kitchen wastes, cultivation of fruits and vegetables
and maintenance of roadside trees in the vicinity of the house.
A team of judges comprising of landscapers and horticulturists visit the
residences to judge the gardens. Entry fee is a nominal Rs.100/- per garden.
The visits are scheduled for a Sunday to enable the home owners to be
available during the judging. Except for drinking water, the competitors are
requested not to detain the judges for refreshments to avoid inconvenience to
other competitors.
The Panel of Judges from amongst the BSG members will be led by:
Dr.H.Y.Karapurkar,D.Sc.[Germany], Chairman of Biodiversity Board,Goa and
former Director of Agriculture and will have Mr. Rodney Almeida, Proprietor
of Rodney's Roses & Garden Centre , Mr. Rozendo Mendonsa, Proprietor of Mr.
Farmer, Guirim, Mr. Anand Jadhav, M.Sc.[Agri]Horticulture, Horticulture
Officer at Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula, and former lecturer in Horticulture
[Vocational] at Government HSS,Valpoi. and Mr. Prakash Pednekar, Proprietor of
Nisarg Gardens, Nerul, as the members.
BSG President: Miguel Braganza,M.Sc[Agri] Horti., Horticultural Consultant,
Author and Editor of .BSG Secretary: Christina de Souza, Lecturer in
Commerce, Government College ,Khandola-Ponda, and BSG Treasurer: Rena
Fernandes,B.Sc.[Agri], Agriculture Officer[Information], Farmers' Training
Centre,Ela Farm ,Old Goa, may accompany the judging team.
