Panaji: Goa Governor S.C. Jamir Tuesday called upon Goans settled abroad to help shape the state's destiny by contributing to developmental plans. Inaugurating the third edition of Gomant Vishwa Sammelan, a convention of Goans based abroad as well as elsewhere in the country, Jamir advised the participants to focus on the plight of the educated unemployed. The convention is yet another bid from the NRI Goa Facilitation Centre of the state government to rope in an estimated quarter-million non-resident Indians (NRIs) of the Goan origin and involve them in the state's development agenda. Officials said that the convention would offer participants an opportunity to explore options available in the state's industry, education and tourism, besides giving them a chance to interact with Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane and others. The two-day event, however, has once again failed to attract Goans of note from outside the state.
