Colleagues
I have heard the claim about bhattkars not being keen on poor kids getting an education as this deprived them of essential docile workers. However, I have yet to read this claim confirmed in well refereed texts.

However, I would not be surprised if the claim was true as history sheds light on this phenomenon elsewhere.
