Crisis in NCP blows over Mickky let off the hook BY HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, JAN 21 – The crisis in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Goa, seems to have blown over for the time being with Deputy Chief Minister Dr Wilfred de Souza indicating an amicable solution to the on-going feud with party MLA and Agriculture Minister Mickky Pacheco. Dr Carmo Pegado who heads the Co-ordination committee said that the panel is of the view that instead of precipitating the crisis, it should be settled amicably. During a meeting he alongwith co-ordination committee members Jose Philip D'Souza, Chandrakant Chodankar and Ulhas Naik held with the Dy CM on Saturday evening, it was agreed not to press for any stern action against Mickky. In what is seen as a climb-down by Dr de Souza group, the Deputy Chief Minister felt that the party should not go for disciplinary action against Mickky unless the Benaulim MLA continues with his belligerent behaviour. Dr Pegado and the three members were called for the meeting in Saligao following an important decision taken earlier by the Co-ordination Committee. In a fax sent to the national president of NCP Sharad Pawar and other leaders, the four requested that a State Executive Meeting be convened at the earliest. NCP vice-president and spokesman Surendra Furtado meanwhile, also faxed a letter to Mr Pawar denying that any decision for convening an executive meet had been taken. Furtado said the so-called Co-ordination Committee had actually not been formed formally as such appointments are made from the High Command. The January 17 executive meeting had decided to set up such a committee but it has not been formally constituted, he added. Furtado said if Mickky has any love for the NCP then he must consider apologizing to High Command for his behaviour. in the last few days. He suggested that Mickky should not get carried away by external forces and forgetting the past, must start on a new slate to make NCP a strong party in the State. Regarding the show cause notice, he said Mickky's reply will be sent to the High Command. -- Cheers, Gabe Menezes. London, England
