2-year-old girl and infant brother killed in Dabolim road mishap NT News Service Vasco Jan 21: In a heart-rending incident, a two-year-old girl and her two-month-old brother were killed today when they were knocked down by a speeding taxi while crossing the road with their mother at Dabolim-Bogmalo junction. The mother of the children is said to be critically wounded and is undergoing treatment in the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim. The deputy superintendent of police, Vasco, Mr Dinraj Govekar informed that the accident took place between 4.30 p.m to 5 p.m. He said that Ms Mahadevi Vijay Pawar (30), a Dabolim resident, was crossing the four-lane state highway near the Dabolim-Bogmalo junction with her two children — two-year-old daughter, Jyoti and two-month-old son, Nana. While crossing the road, they were knocked down by a tourist taxi which was speeding towards the Dabolim Airport from Verna. The mother and the children were found lying on the road in a pool of blood, Mr Govekar said. All three sustained grievous injuries — the children on their heads and the mother on her face and limbs, informed Mr Govekar. They were rushed to the Cottage Hospital at Chicalim. The Chicalim hospital referred the critically injured to the GMC. However, the two siblings breathed their last on the way to the GMC. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as John Santan Fernandes (28), a resident of New-Vaddem. The Vasco police have registered an offence under section 279, 338, 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code against the driver. -- Cheers, Gabe Menezes.
