Tiatrist “APLON”

I am sure none of the Tiatro goers and Tiatro lovers will be unaware of the late gigantic Tiatrist Rom Tony who died last year on 4th April. May his soul rest in peace. He was a member of once famed Trio called Rom-Rem-Rod of the Tiatro group “Young Stars of Goa”. This Trio created havoc for the MGP Government headed by Dayananda Bandodkar and also to his daughter Shashikala Kakodkar when she was the Chief Minister of Goa after her father’s sudden demise of heart attack. Dayananda Bandodkar got heart attack while playing Table Tennis in Panjim at Gympkhana. Most of the Trios of Rom-Rem-Rod were composed by Rom Tony only and their entry into the Stage was always fabulously applauded by the audience, Rom Tony was the leader of this Trio. Rarely the children - mainly the females - of Tiatrists inherited the Tiatro art of their parents but renowned female Konkani Stage artistes Felcy and her younger sister Aplon are unique because they have not only inherited their father’s art of “Tiatristponn” but they have inherited it to such an extent that it made their late father before his death a very proud Tiatrist for giving two great artistes to Konkani Stage. They are not only ordinary Tiatrists but currently they are 2 of the topmost female artistes of Konkani Stage, Felcy is purely professional devoting herself totally to the cause of Konkani Stage while Aplon is, I can say, a quasi professional in the sense that she is a qualified teacher by profession teaching for Secondary Students at Government Vaddem Nagar High School – Vasco. With M.A. in English, plus B.Ed where she scored highest marks in Psychology she teaches Economics and Georgraphy to the students. Married with one child – a daughter of 8, she feels proud of her husband who like her beloved father, encourages her to participate in the Tiatros. As a matter of fact when speaking of her father’s influence on her, sobbing uncontrollably remembering her father’s love and affection that she received, she said it was mainly because of him that she climbed the ladder of Konkani Stage and if she is still there it is only because of the tremendous encouragement, guidance and instruction that she received from him. Then she went on saying that Rom Tony, her father was not only a father to her but he was also a very good friend and a “ Guru” for her and concluded that not only she but all her sisters and other members were very fortunate to have a blessing of such a wonderful, understanding, wisdomatic, encouraging, loving and caring father.

Aplon’s real name is “Ana Maria Aplonia Rebello D’Cruz” but she is known everywhere as Aplon. She got the touch of Konkani Stage not thru amateur performance but directly thru professional Stage and that too thru accident. Felcy her sister once for one particular show was unable to perform her role, it was of mentally retarded girl but had to be performed humorously. It was in mid eighties. When Aplon was prevailed upon to do that role in the absence of her professional artiste sister Felcy, she agreed and performed that role to such a perfection that even the former Archishop of Goa, Raul Gonsalves admired her performance and somebody from the audience gave her cash award for this particular role. Since then there was no stopping for Aplon. Last year at Kala Academy Contest she received “Best Actress Award” in a stiff competition. Her roles are mainly of heroine as she is having all the attributes of an attractive girl. Her shapely physique and immaculate looks charm the audience and because of this many of the directors are seeking her to perform in their dramas. With her appropriate and meticulously selected dress codes, she mesmerizes the audience and her delivery of the tongue is with utmost clarity. Among the top directors, Prem Kumar admired her the most and also guided her to right direction in her performance and once he even presented her with a commemorative Memento in appreciation of her wonderful role in his Tiatro “Tum Modem Poddonakai”.

With the exception of C. Alvares, she acted for all the top directors not only in Goa and Gulf but also in many other parts of India including New Delhi for writer & director Pal Soares who says “Aplon is one of the best female artistes of Konkani Stage and any director can rely on her for performing her role to his total satisfaction. Further, Pal Soares said if he acquired total success in New Delhi for his show it was because of Aplon and her sister Felcy who not only gave her best performance but helped and guided him very much. According to Aplon, the best writer and director of Konkani traditional Tiatro is Prem Kumar while that of Non-Stop is Rose Ferns. While concluding she showed her happiness that Konkani Stage in Kuwait is progressing at a faster pace and ended with a statement saying “let this be done in unison for the interest of Konkani”.

Her hobby is: Tailoring. She selects, designs and stitches her own clothes.
Her Passion: To do social work.
Extracurricular activities: Councelling at Vasco for the Youth.
Currently she is Vice Moderator of Parish Council of Bogmalo.
