Tiatr Day Celebrated: But where are all the Tiatrists and tiatr lovers ??

photos included)
It may be reminded that Goa (Kala Academy) organises 'Tiatr Day' celebrations on
17th April every year since 1996.
KA or Govt. organises Tiatr Day Celebration in which 5/6 Senior Tiatr Artists
are
felicitated for their outstanding contribution to the development of Tiatr
stage in
Goa.
This year too, there were 6 Senior Tiatrists:
1. Joao de Deus Cardosa, (Born.20.03.1939-Pomborpua).
2. Caridade Francisco Fernandes (Babush), born 18/9/1940-Armbol.
3.Premanand Mahadew Sangodkar (Born April 16. 1941-Margao)
4.Vicent Florence Fernandes (Star of Curtorim) born 27/02/1941.
5.FAtima D'Souza (born 15th Nov, 1954- Mumbai).
Prince Jacob (Minguel Jacob CArmo Fernandes) was also felicitated for his
successful
attempt in bringing out translated version of Marathi play 'Sahi Re Sahi' as
'Rupnnem' in Tiatr Format.
Chief Guest : Digambar Kamat
Guest of honour: Cyriaco Dias, a renown senior tiatr personality.
All the above 6 were honoured by offering Momento (a bronze Natraj) and a shawl
at
the hand of the Chief Guest.
The year too, the audience was very poor and one could easily guess that 90% of
the
approx.225 people gathered were the friends and family of the other 50 odd
artists
who were present to collect their last year's Tiatr Competitions and Cantaram
Competitions awards.
The function was slated to start at 5pm but started 5.45pm
This year too, the audience was very poor.
At 5pm, the audience was with just 50 people.
5.30pm, it was about 100.
5.45pm it was about 125
But at 7pm it was about 225 (100 people may have come just for the cultural
programme which was to start after the felicitation/prize giving ceremony).
Where are all the Tiatr lovers gone ?
Previous day, there was a free tiatr (Mini Mario's 'Sotor Pauti Sat') in open
air
auditorium but the crowd was to the full capacity -Mainly with Panjimites -it
was
free too.
And where are all the tiartists gone ??
The front rows should have been occupied by our tiatrists but there was none
(except
seen Mr.& Mrs. Tomazinho Cardoza who may have come later)
Enough publicity was given on all Goan dailies with all 6 photos (some in
colours).
KA also given an display Ad inserted in the popular sunday's Tiatr Ads page on
Herald.
What's happening with this tiatrists ? 'bikareamk nosai bhikareamchi'?
How would you feel when your turn comes up (say after 10 years) for
felicitation and
to see an empty auditorium ?
I would like to request all tiatrist to mark/reserve this day '17th April' and
not
to take/play any tiatr on this day so that you and all your troupe can attend
the
Tiatr Day Celebrations. Let's make it a grand success next time
If any of the tiatrists or their friends and family reading this, I would
request
them to please pass this on to others too.
And who knows ? Anil Kumar may have come beacuse of Fatima (Who received award),
Humbert may have come for his brother Prince Jacob, Felcy and Aplon's Husband
etc
may have come for Aplon who also received award as best actress, beacause these
people were not seen last year.
However, there were up to 10 patrakars/Reporter/TV Crew but none from
Doordharshan.
'Doordharshan itna door kyion hai'
Prince Jacob in his speech also pointed out this and advised Digambar Kamat to
look
into it.
The whole auditorium (with capacity over 1200) looked very empty and this was
even
pointed out by the Chief Guest and the Guest of honour - see photos taken after
7pm.
There was a programme of just 'Songs' started at 7.40pm, supported by Joe Rose,
Anil
Kumar, Juana, Felcy, Aplon, Fatima, Socoro de St. Cruz, Jacob, Humbert,
Hortencio
Pereira etc.
