Dona Paula

This was the song ‘Dona Paula’ sung by (playback singer) Jr. Rod in the latest
Cyril
Almeida’s VCD ‘Bhojekan’

The 6 minutes song (video shooting recorded live) at Dona Paula, shows the
entire
scenic beauty of Dona Paula with background young dancers (Choreography).

I liked the song so much (specially the history of Dona Paula) that I decided to
bring it to you here after a simple translation.
(Don’t believe me on this ?? then check these fresh photos which are taken just
4u
today)

Dona Paula
Historic place,
Historic name,
Beautiful ‘Dona Paula’

Sitting on the rock,
Spreading it wings over the Zuari river…
There lives Governor,
and in his palace (Cabo Raj Niwas)
one can find history of the place ‘Dona Paula’

Briefly,
During Portuguese time
A beautiful girl was born
In the house of Manuel Cortiez
Who was baptized as ‘Paula’

Paula married to Governor Miguel de Almeida
She then comes to join her husband in Goa
Where she spent all her life.

With the wealth she got after her father’s death,
She owned the whole place (in her name)
Thus becoming the head or Landlady of the village there.

Paula was very helpful to all the villagers
She was running charities/societies like Miseri cord dia, Senador de Goa
Leaving behind her greatness (highness), she helped the poor, in the name of
God.

The villagers were fisher folks
By fishing they earn their daily bread
They left home early morning
Leaving behind their children at home
Paula visiting every house in the morning
To take care of their children and looked after them
Till their parents comes home.

In Portuguese, as a respect/honor, a girl is addressed as ‘Dona’
The villagers looked Paula as the mother of the whole village
And to keep her memory alive..
All the villagers named the place/village as ‘Dona Paula’
=====
The above is taken from the song.
I know it for the first time (its history) from the song
Earlier, I was told about the lovers (Girl named Paula) who committed suicide
there
and hence the name Dona Paula.

Could there be any other version ??
Can any one throw some light ??

How small is our Goa on the India’s map ?
Have we been to most of the Goa yet ?
Do we know all about Goa (its landmarks, history etc) yet ?
It seems the tourists visiting Goa know it all.
