CHURCH SUPPORTS AIDS TESTS? OR DOES IT? A statement by the Catholic Church on HIV testing seems to have caused a lot of confusion in the media, with some papers saying the Church backed compulsory testing, and others saying the opposite. Apparently, the Church supports voluntary HIV/AIDS testing, and not compulsory testing. QUOTE... UNQUOTE: Clarification in the Navhind Times: The report headlined 'Minority rights give rise to divisions in society: Ford Foundation official', published in this newspaper on July 10, gives an erroneous impression that this was the view expressed by the eminent political scientist, Dr Bishnu Mohapatra, at his lecture at Goa University on July 9. In actual fact, this was the view he critiqued during his lecture. Dr Mohapatra holds that protection of minority rights is integral to the cause of deepening democracy in India. Dr Mohapatra also clarifies that he expressed his views not as an official of the Ford Foundation but as a political scientist. --------------------------------------------------------------- ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ||g |||o |||a |||n |||e |||t || Issue compiled by ||__|||__|||__|||__|||__|||__|| Frederick Noronha |/__\|/__\|/__\|/__\|/__\|/__\| [EMAIL PROTECTED] Copyleft Goanet 2006 http://www.creativecommons.org You may reproduce this ezine in its entirety, with credits retained.
