Apart from 'high' salaries in the UK for example, the equity on homes here
is such that people can get a loan, if necessary, at a drop of a hat. It is
now so customary for people to have a second home in the UK, Spain,
Portugal, Italy, Eastern Europe or the USA. The property in Goa is
effectively a third home for small change. I studied this intriguing
phenomenon among folks who stayed at my Goa hotel recently. All were UK
residents buying property in Goa like nobody's business. In turn, the Goans
in the UK were generally selling in Goa as they were getting older and felt
they could not maintain property ten flying hours distant from the UK and
with a heavy annual monsoon to contend with. Appropriation, theft and
robbery also detered property ownership among Goans. In many ways, this is a
very sad situation.
