Regarding Ben Antao's novel PENANCE, Fred Noronha wrote: <And, this novel is also published by the same Goan Observer group which has published the review (below)! It could be a conflict of interest to publish a novel, and then call it " un-put-down-able until the very end".
==== JC's commment: Conflict of Interesting comment from Fred Noronha! Wonder if he had the opportunity to read Penance, or even Blood & Nemesis by the same author. Were any of them "put-down-able", Fred? and what about Victor Rangel-Ribeiro's "Tivolem" or Lino Leitao's "Gift of the Holy Cross"? What did you think about those two books? ..... Did you read them? About "Conflict of Interest", I suppose it all boils down to ... Financial Interest. Does the Goa Observer have ANY Financial Interest in the sales of the book PENANCE - except from the fact that IF the book does well, Ben might get his next book PRINTED in Goa, at the Goa Observer ? BTW: Do publishers NOT promote their publications? Does Fred NOT use this thing called CyberSpace to Promote WHOM and WHAT he wants to promote ? The only issue Fred could logically have with the phrase "un-put-down-able until the very end", is IF Fred had read the book and found the "un-put-down-able" phrase to be Misleading. So Fred, Have you read the book .... ? BTW: after my initial reluctance to read Ben's previous novel Blood & Nemesis (mainly because it is loosely based on a "Freedom Fighter" who I know was something else, I ran into Cornel da Costa's excellently written positive review of the book. When I spoke (via tel) to Cornel, he advised me that he found the book very interesting and that in general, he always tried to look at the positive side of an author's effort. http://www.colaco.net/1/CornelCostaReviewBloodNemesis.htm I then decided to read the book and found it to be an excellent read, just like I enjoyed Lino Leitao's "Gift of the Holy Cross". I must add here that Victor Rangel-Ribeiro's "Tivolem" is an absolute masterpiece. Trust me ... this book is UN-PUT-DOWN-ABLE. No Conflict of Interest involved in the immediately preceeding statement (;-) I hope to buy a copy of PENANCE and then decide for myself if the review in the Goa Observer is accurate or just FLUFF (as promotional material is normally referred to). sincerely jc please visit "NEW" on The Goan Forum at http://www.colaco.net Recommended Goa related sites 1. http://www.goa-world.com 2. http://www.SuperGoa.com _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [email protected] http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org
