Coca-Cola profit rises with World Cup boost DPA New York, July 19 (DPA) Coca-Cola boosted net profit nearly 7 percent in the second quarter, helped by its promotion of the World Cup football tournament, the company said Tuesday.
Net income rose to $ 1.84 billion from $ 1.72 billion in the year-earlier period as revenue rose 2.6 percent to $ 6.48 billion on gains in Europe and Latin America. Profits came in higher than analysts expected, buoyed by sales of Dasani water and a gain from the initial public offering of a Turkish bottler. Investments "in key marketing initiatives such as the World Cup" helped deliver a 4 percent rise in volume, with non-carbonated drinks leading the way, chief executive Neville Isdell said in a statement. Volume growth was led by double-digit gains in key emerging markets, including China, Russia, Turkey, and Argentina, the Atlanta-based drinks giant said. --DPA -- ---------------------------------------------------------- Frederick 'FN' Noronha | Yahoomessenger: fredericknoronha http://fn.goa-india.org | +91(832)2409490 Cell 9822122436 ---------------------------------------------------------- 2248 copylefted photos from Goa: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fn-goa/ _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [email protected] http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org
