Dear Edward, Yes, I did primarily mean Dubai and Bahrain. I am not familiar with KSA. Since it is a much bigger country, I am assuming there are many illegals who make their way there. Dubai has quite a crack-down on illegals. It happens every Thursday but that is another post.
No, contracting companies are not perfect but then, the alternative for an unskilled labourer is an individual with much less bargaining power. In Goa, this means someone who will get off the bus, with nothing but the sack on his back, five kids and a wife. He'll put up a tent illegally in some communidate land and hawk his services for a pittance. Unrestricted and unmitigated, it spirals the wage-rate continuously downwards. Being an electrician or a plumber is not a worthwhile job for a Goan anymore, who is used to a certain standard of living. It's all relative. Thanks for sharing the info about KSA.
