I have witnessed the transformation of many of my older friends and relatives who had harbored bigoted notions during my childhood. My experience has been that most rational people are very receptive to reason, even without the benefit of an advanced education. My grandparents in their old-age realized that most of the prejudices of their childhood and youth were in fact horrible. All of them, but especially my maternal grandmother, appeared to have conducted a thorough re-examination of their beliefs, and perhaps, a humbling self-evaluation.
