Many bhaji puris later, it came to happen that Succorinha was with child, and that Bostiao may have founded the child, to be later called Bebe. After allegedly founding the child (Bebe), Bostiao disappeared ...for practical purposes. We neither heard from Bostiao, nor knew of his whereabouts. In effect, he remained the proverbial quiet, solitary, unknown Goan. Then, came along Custodio. He worked tirelessly at helping Bebe. Custodio spent more time trying to organise a future for this child Bebe, than he spent paying attention to his long neglected (only benign neglect !) wife Maria. Custodio would spend 80% of his holidays on trying to organise a future for Bebe, 20% on sleep, and 0% on amchem bai Maria. The story was the same whether the location be Longinhos in Margao, Casa de Goa in Lisboa, the Mandovi in Ponnje, on the beach in Nassau or at a Wendy's in London. Yep ... it was just the same old story. Bebe got 99% attention, Maria 0%. 1% accounts for the drifting off which comes with 'benign neglect'. Now, aeons later, Bebe the abandoned child of its alleged founder (Bostiao) has world recognition. It is moving up in the attention of Goans and non-Goans. And guess what happened next? Yep .... Bostiao, that quiet, solitary, unknown Goan founder of this child turns up and demands to be recognised. jc's post script: I think that it is but right that Bostiao gets his due recognition even though he has largely remained quiet, solitary and unknown.
