Hello Goans A favored destination for education ( some extracts taken from Arab News Riyadh written by Javid Hassan)
India is fast becoming a favored destination for education with students from over 30 countries pursuing higher education in India, with costs a fraction of what it is costing in either UK or USA. What is costing 10,000 US dollars in India for 3 years inclusive of tution fees and living cost for graduation studies, its almost 80, 000 in USA and 56000 in UK. India has over 310 Universities consisting of 52 Deemed Universities, 162 traditional universities, 40 agricultural/forestry/fisheries/vetenary universities, 36 engineering and technology universities and 18 medical universities. Besides this, there are over 15500 colleges of engineering, medical, arts, humanities, social sciences, commerce, science and management education. Every Indian university has English as the medium of instruction and most Indian universities consider a sound knowledge of English a prerequisite for pursuing higher education. Most of the professional courses like science and technical subjects, English is exclusively used for teaching purposes. Postgraduate education is taught in English in most of the educational institutes. One important thing is that India has the third largest English speaking population in the world. This makes the foreign nationals feel at home. The quality of education is comparable to the best available anywhere in the world. And the costs are moderate and affordable. Coming to Goa, I remember I had read somewhere that Goa had the first and the best university during the Portuguese era in the whole of Asia. If I am not mistaken, it was located in Reis Magos? Goa too used to get students from different parts of the world for their education. Wonder what happened? Coming to the present times, it surprises me that the ministers elected by the people of Goa seems to hate Goans succeeding in the world, hence they refuse the English medium, even when it has been suggested to impose one subject of English from Primary. No wonder the education is suffering in Goa, and many don't even complete SSC.
