Hi Gabe,

I was wondering, after the recent attempt at airline bombings in London, when a
post like yours would appear on Goanet. Most of the suspects were British of
Pakistani origin. However some reports, we have been seeing on US tele, were
the assimilation of the 2 million Asians in UK.

So I was surprised that the otherwise vocal Goans from UK who are strong
defenders of anti-racism were pretty silent. Now is the time to make one's
voice heard and presence felt. In fact at one point Cornel took pride to state
that there is no pressure to assimilate in the UK, like there is in the USA. I
did not concur with him on his latter point. But perhaps he will have to work
overtime to make his case to his "White Peers" and others. I am sure his
high-class English will come to good use. Yet, we have noticed a distinct "drop
in decibel" from Goanetters in UK over the last few weeks.

It is nice to look at racial events and social injustice 20-50 years ago. But
IF FROM LESSONS LEARNT, there is no application for current events, all the
analysis of history is just passe and superfluous.
Kind Regards, GL

Goan victim of racism in the UK

I am a Goan, marine engineering student studying at the South Tyneside college,
South shields, Tyne & Wear, United KIngdom. The following incident has taken
place and would be grateful if you would include this in the Letters column of
ur esteemed newspaper.

This is to bring to the people of Goa and India the consequences of terrorism
threats on the Indian people which live in UK. Some of them do not intend to
settle in UK but are simply students.
