Dear Helga, I enjoyed reading your hilarious account especially about the fire-hazard dance. Our Goan dances are hazardous to quite a few people, especially the partner they are dancing with, and after a good many kingfisher beers, fire-breathing dragons would think twice about dancing with our Goan men :))
Last week, I met a young Swedish man at my husband's company picnic. This was an interesting man, who had made his way to India on an internship and then managed to find a job at an Indian company. The reason I mention this man, is because sometime ago, some of us Goans in cyberspace were discussing the possibility of setting up an internship of this sort for second-generation expat Goan youth. The young man or woman, would spend a year in Goa working with a Goan firm and living with a Goan family. This participating family would introduce the man to the local history, architecture, tradition, literature, music, socio-economic realities and everything else relevant to the Goa of yesteryear and today. Ofcourse like many ideas conceived in cyberspace, it never really got off the ground but it was a good thought. We cannot learn about Goa from functions held in exile. At best, these are an opportunity for our youth to meet prospective mates and an opportunity for the men of yesteryear to reminisce about the "good old days", but the real Goa awaits to be discovered in Goa. Not on 2 week holiday but with a deeper sense of involvement, commitment and tenure of stay. selma ------------------------------------ --- "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Several issues have been on my mind after I attended > Viva Goa in Toronto > and in spite of the 45oC heat in the hangar on that > day global warming is > not one of them.
