Helga, I read your comment --
> 3) Invite Goan Hindus who could contribute their culture and their> delicious food. Speaking to some young Gonadians I got the impression that they did not think Goan Hindus were Goan! The perception that all Goans are Catholic is prevalent not just among the 'Gonadians', but among almost all Indians in North America. The moment I introduce myself as coming from Goa, I automatically become Catholic! I have had to tell many, that there are more Hindus in Goa than Catholics and that we even celebrate festivals like Diwali and Ganesh Chaturthi! As regards inviting Hindus to a Catholic function, I don't quite know how that will work out. There are Goan associations and conventions in North America, but they have always been disjoint. Hindu association had its convention in Chicago this year in July and in Toronto 2 years earlier. Almost every place has a Catholic Association and a Hindu one! About a decade ago, an effort was made in the New York/NJ area to invite Goan Catholics to the annual Hindu picnic, and many did attend. Somehow, during subsequent years no such thing happened.
