Dears,
Many of us may differ on the Konkani script issue or the secular credentials
of Adv.Uday Bhembre, N.Shivdas or Sandesh Prabhudesai, but no sane person can
state that the person and articles of Subhash Velingkar in the Sunaparant are
anything other than rabidly communal. It is only this that makes me wonder
about the Editor of Sunaparant that gives Velingakar a platfor every Thursday
in its pages. The acts of Subhash Velingkar in writing vitriolic, and
factually/historically incorrect, articles as also the act of Sandesh in
providing a platform to publish these rabid articles [in the guise of
'permitting differring opinions' which he does not permit across the board to
even Tomazinho Cardoz or Ulhas Buyao, even as the right to rebutt] must be
condemned for the yellow journalism that it is.

I wish to steer clear of the lipi controversy.
But I take strong objection to Sunaparant harbouring
the column by Mr.Subhash Velingkar. It contains highly
objectionable material. It is a systematic tirade
against the minorities. Many know how I have voiced my
objections - together with many others to my friend
Sandesh Prabhudesai, the editor of the Sunaparant -
who is very sincere and forward looking, and has
played a great role to preserve secular harmony,
especially during the time of the VCD, and writes
editorials which are very balanced. But a column like
that of Mr. Velingkar is unworthy of a paper like the
Sunaparant. I used to be a great fan of Sunaparant,
but have stopped buying it for some time.
