When our visiting group asked Mario's son to pose with his dad, he stood at his side. This reminded me of a photo of Frank and Dom, with Dom standing up with his Beatle haircut. The photo accompanied a piece by Dom Moraes headlined, His Silence Spoke More Than His Words (I hope I got it right) in Youth Times, which was published by the Times of India group. I think Frank Moraes once was chief guest at my school's function. I was very young then. But when I began doing sports freelance writing for Indian Express during my college days, Frank was editor-in-chief of the paper. Many moons later, Dom was Sunday editor of the paper which was edited then by his cousin, Darrly D'Monte (from his mother's side). Dom has written about how Ramnath Goenka, the Express owner, tried to play politics between them. Dom was later fired because, to the best of my information, he went to Kashmir or some place and didn't write a piece saying there was nothing to write. He lived and travelled live on Express account. I also remember one critic pointing out many English gramatical mistakes in his newspaper and magazine writings and the critic questioned why Dom's copy was not edited properly. He wanted to know if it was because of fear that Dom was a world-renowned writer. I think Society magazine carried a big piece or interview with Leela Naidu where she called him selfish and many other things when Dom ditched her to be with his new partwer Suraya, a magazine editor. I only met Dom once when he came for a special tribute to AFS Talyarkhan, the late venerable sports columnist. Dom was reeking of alcohol smell. I have a feeling the Frank Moraes tread has appeared on Goanet before, and I think I wrote about the piece in Youth Times and also quoted some parts of it.
