The loss of the heavy cruiser was a huge loss to Hitler. It was cornered in
a classic ambush at sea by the Royal Navy, and damaged. The captain managed
to limp into neutral Montevideo where he scuttled it, and also chose to go
down with it.
The destroyer HMS Achilles was part of the British flotilla. It would
later become the first Flag Ship of the new Indian Navy: the INS Delhi.
