Sorry for this delayed response. I think this item does need our attention. 
Of course, from the article, there is not enough information available why 
the Archbishop has not supported the clergy. There is a hint that the Church 
does not wish to involve itself as being involved in electoral politics, in 
the sense that it will actively campaign for a particular candidate in a 
constituency, or ask the members of the Church to vote for a particular 
candidate.

However, in the larger sense, what some members of the clergy are doing is 
correct. For example, there is a general statement that one should not vote 
for a corrupt candidate. This makes an assumption that people vote in such a 
way deliberately, or that people have an option. What the members of the 
clergy are doing is to tell the people who is not a corrupt candidate, and 
so give people an informed choice.

I personally would like to hear more about the views of the both sides
in the Church.
