Last time I saw this photo of a young man staring back at me on my computer screen, my first thought was, "Who's this?" Horror of horrors, I actually realised that 'he' was sitting before my very own cluttered, untidy and crowded desktop, with my GNU/Linux computer grinning in the background.
After a few seconds of puzzlement, the answer fell into place: "Herman Carneiro". Which made me feel more uneasy. How could I be so forgetful? Yes, I can be absent minded. But in this case, I believe, is the result of that rare meeting up with somebody one has closely worked with for 11 years and met only on just 3-4 occasions. Most of them, hurried. On Tuesday night, we met up again! This time, there was no confusion. We needed to talk about so many issues. Yes, Goanet founder Herman Carneiro is back in Goa. For those who came in late, and I never tire of saying this, Herman founded the Goanet list at the age of 17, 12 years ago. Some of us guys just latched on ... and stayed there. Even if the low-profile Herman prefers behind-the-scene work. For those who might not know him, he did a degree in engineering. And a post-grad in infectious diseases. He is now at the Imperial College in London in his third year of medicine, though the Boston-based North Eastern University was the incubator for Goanet in August/September 1994. How long ago that seems; almost like another era. Of course, the good news is that inspired by his 'baby' and the discussions thereon (obviously!) Herman is spending some weeks in Goa, studying the malaria issue here. He'll be here until early Jan 2007, and he should be around for the Goanetters' Meet expected to be held just before Christmas. For those of you wanting to get in touch with our low-profile founder, just email [EMAIL PROTECTED] in the meanwhile. We spent the better part of 150 minutes brainstorming... so if you have any ideas of how the Goanet project could be expanded, please feel free to share them either with the list or with Goanet Admin - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Naturally, everyone implements their own suggestions... so don't rabbit out something highly unworkable :-) FN -- FN 9822122436 +91-832-240-9490 (phone calls after 1 pm please) Free the airwaves... for India's sake (see the article at the URL below) [http://www.tehelka.com/home/20061111/20061111.asp?filename=18.jpg] _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [email protected] http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org
