Just as many Muslims are viewed as pretty traditional in terms of their thinking for the modern world, the Catholics in France must surely see Catholics in the environment you described, as pretty conservative and traditional. It is remarkable how a Catholic country like France would not bat the metaphorical eyelid to have a woman President who has a long-term partner rather than a husband (plus four children incidentally). It is remarkable how so much social change has taken place in most European countries regarding sexual mores. However, in France the idea of a married man or woman having a lover on the side has always been seen as a fairly civilised kind of arrangement! And incidentally, I note that I will have to carry my marriage certificate with me when I possibly visit your place. I hope I still have it as I can't remember when I lost saw it! Re Rumsfeld, no one really cared about that guy at this end, and of course, that poodle Blair has barely got any legs left to use for the rest of his utterly failed period as Prime Minister on the domestic and international front. I saw many links between everything I had said and used with the example of Segolene Royal. As she was a socialist and liberal I felt this would make you at least a bit uncomfortable. Not long ago, arising from your comment on political liberals, when I asked you what was wrong about being a political liberal, you found sustenance in Peter's mildly snide comment on liberals. Remember that? I do! Finally, I was staggered how well you knew about the availability of so many naughty places for Segolene's partner in your neighbourhood.
