If a private bus breaks down, you get abandoned, without even fare returned, and have to figure out your own way onwards. For govt. buses, a replacement arrives soon (they are all networked, so if a Kadamba breaks down in Karnataka, a KSRTC replacement arrives). Besides, drivers and conductors are better paid in govt. The rules about drinking are very strict, and they don't want to lose their decently paid jobs, so you have sober drivers. The rules for all (except Kadamba, for some reason) state that they can stop only at authorised eating joints (within govt. bus stands), so you get cheap, clean food. Etc. Etc. All public services should be nationalised, starting with transport, followed by education. Fortunately, in India, energy and water are still entirely nationalised, though if lapdogs-of-the-IMF Manmohan and Chidambaram have their way, they soon won't be. -- Question everything -- Karl Marx _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [email protected] http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org
