Crnel- I think it is morally wrong for the government or a socialist/progressive welfare state to take my hard earned money and hand it over to the indolent unless the person has a physical handicap or is unable to take care of himself. Social engineering and income redistribution has never worked anywhere in the world and won't because it does not nurture individual enterprise which is the lynchpin that has made America so successful. In a freemarket society we do not need the government to step in and tell investors how to invest their money. Investors take risk with their capital and have the inherent right to pay the going wage because we cannot depend on politicians to determine a fair wage since poiticians do not create wealth--they only tax and spend to satisfy their constituencies-- the more money they raise through taxes the more they can buy votes and perpetuate themselves in office. Nobody believes someone can survive on a minimum wage either. A minimum wage is a supply and demand proposition and will find its own level. There is a defacto minimum wage already in place since we have very low unemployment and there is a shortage of people. As an example, WalMart pays over $9/hr. at the entry level which is considerably over the suggested minimum wage of $7.25/hr. What is the rationale for a minimum legislated wage of $7.25? Why not raise it to $14.50 or $21.75 or more? "Worker protection" is a large reason why European economies are largely stagnant and why injudicious labor contracts ensuring guaranteed high wage jobs for low skilled jobs have landed the Big3 automakers into impending bankuptcy and have exported American jobs.
