Kind Attn: NRI Commissioner Hon. Eduardo Faleiro Dear Sir,
I would like to bring to your kind attention that there is a lot of discrimination being made between NRG and the local student appearing for the GOA CET Entrance Examination. My daughter had secured a place in the merit list in GCET 2006, with good rank. When we approached the Technical Department Education Porvorim, for the Prospectus of professional colleges, it stated that NRI children who have passed GCET with merit were to pay 50,000 US Dollars in 4 installments for a seat in Goa Medical College, whereas the local category has to pay only Indian Rupees 14,000/- Why the difference. Reputed colleges in India give you an option for NRI children (Being Indian citizens) to choose between NRI or General Category, if you choose NRI you have to pay the required amount and not appear for the entrance exam. While the NRI students who opt for general category have to answer the entrance exam and their selection is based on the marks in the merit list and they pay the normal fee. So why do NRGs have to appear for GOA CET when they are asked to pay a huge amount of US Dollars. Not each and every NRG is rich and holding top jobs. Talented and bright Goan students should be given a chance to take part in competitive examinations without any prejudice. Today my daughter has decided to apply for colleges outside Goa who do not have any such differences. It's a pity that outsiders are given preference to study in Goa and Goans have to go to other parts of India or study abroad because of such a system. Sir, I would request you to kindly look into the matter. Thanking you. sincerely M.D'Sa ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Goanet supports BMX, the alumni network of Britto's, St Mary's and Xavier's -- three prominent institutions in Mapusa, Goa.
