My mum was one of the nurses working with Dr V N Shirodkar in the 1950s at the Bombay Hospital, when he invented the 'Shirodkar's stitch'. He often joked about his Goan origins, or so she told me. Of course, I could be wrong here. These are just stories told to a kid ... which I was when I heard them. FN
