Dear Goanet Readers,

What about our Goan religious leaders to name a few:

Late Cardinal Valerian Gracias (Navelim)
Late Bro. Gracias, of SFX Pilar Society, Pilar (Carmona)
Full details of his achievements should be easily available with the Society

Father Cirilo F. Rodrigues, presently serving as parish, (I think it is Virar Nagar) in Delhi, (Carmona)

Many may even know that this priest from Carmona has done a lot for the poor in Bihar and has fought legal battles to get land for the farmers from powerful Zamindars against all odds.

He has saved hundreds if not thousands of lives when late Mrs. Indira Gandhi was assisanated, almost single handedly in Delhi. He was instrumental for job placements of many youths irrespective of caste and creed.

He even went to help Aboriginnes in Australia to fight for their rights and later returned back to India to serve the people by his appointment to much higher postings (exact title not known to me as his humble nature not allowed him to disclose) by late Holy Father. I understand that after a few years he requested church authorities to relieve of this posting so that he can go back to serve the poor.

He is still in Delhi and many Goans in New Delhi know him. I understand that Mr. Eduardo Faleiro, NRI Commissioner also know him well.

Regards

Tony Fernandes
