------------------------------ Dear Philip, Perhaps it is a result of market forces, but it is not just Goans that bend backwards when the "white man" comes calling. The Arabs do it, the Africans do it, other Indians themselves do it. There is something indelible in the Asian psyche that puts the white man on a pedestal, however torrid their historical association has been, or perhaps it precisely because of this historical association. Having made my excuses for my fellow Goans, I must admit that I myself have been a victim of reverse discrimination in Goa. I was standing in line at the framing shop in Panjim, when a German family was tended to before me and out of turn. A close family friend who is in the hospitality industry shares this view that out-of-state Indians are discriminated against when it comes to service in restaurant, over foreign tourists. One such hapless customer was so infuriated to be kept waiting while everyone else was served, that he left leaving behind a Rs300 tip for the waiter. A wonderful way to make his point. selma __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
