http://www.goa-world.com/expressions/valentines/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fred, That was a great article. We need some more such exposes of IITs and IITians in the Goan Press so that we have more high flying IITians from Goa. You may note that Ashank Desai founder of high flying software giant Mastek, Inc. is also a proud Goan from Britona and a graduate of Goa Engineering College before he went to IIT Bombay for his master's degree. see link below for more info on Ashank Desai: http://www.geocities.com/athens/forum/1503/mastek.html The head of the Jesuits (Western Province) Fr. Francis D'Mello is also an IITian - so not all IITians are corporate honchos, technologists, engineers, editors, politicians, major players in Silicon Valley....Victor Menezes (former CEO of Citibank) is also a notable Goan and IITian, as is Manohar Parrikar former Chief Minister of Goa (who is running again in May BTW). A few IITians have returned to serve Goa such as Manohar Parrikar and Dr. Luis Mesquita of Benaulim (ex IIT Kharagpur) who is the head of the Computer Engineering Department at Padre Conceicao Cleege of Engineering at Nuvem. see link: http://www.pccegoa.org/pcce/comp/faculty.html Some more links about the IITs and IITians: Brand IIT: http://www.dqindia.com/content/industrymarket/2005/205062701.asp IITians and Silicon Valley: http://www.ibnlive.com/news/iitians-laid-the-foundation-for-silicon-valley-boom/top/30269-7.html US CONGRESS HEAPS PRAISE ON IITs http://in.rediff.com/money/2005/apr/28iit.htm Best Regards, Dr. Carmo D'Cruz Goan, IITian ex Velim, Goa now Indian Harbour Beach, Florida >From: "Frederick \"FN\" Noronha" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: "CARMO DCRUZ" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], >[EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], >[EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], >[EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], >[EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], >[EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], "Miguel >Braganza" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: Re: GoaNet, Mervyn Lobo, Merwin Lobo et al >Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2007 22:02:32 +0530 > >http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&ie=UTF-8&ncl=1113183619&filter=0 > >IITians do some soul-searching >Hindustan Times, India - 10 hours ago >They are corporate honchos, technologists, engineers, editors, >politicians, major players in Silicon Valley...but in their core lies >the good old 'IITian'. >http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/7097_1916043,00870001.htm > >* * * * * > >Carmo, Is it true that those allotted the metallurgy stream at the >IITs aren't rated too highly?
