Portuguese citizenship, Indian citizenship, whatever. Whatever citizenship one
chooses, I hope one remains loyal to the country that they pledge allegiance
to. I abhor the very notion of dual citizenship, which I compare to having two
wives, with neither one getting the full measure of the
relationship. When people in Goa opt for Portuguese citizenship for whatever
reason, they should realize that they become foreigners in Goa/India, and like
me, will have to have an OCI card to remain in India or to visit India without
visa. They will also be subject to the same restrictions as foreigners are
subject to. In other words you cannot have you cake and eat it too !

Regarding the designation of Asian Indian in the US Census forms, when I first
went to the USA in the 1960s, someone asked me what my ethnicity was. I said
"Indian". The person was perplexed and asked "which tribe ?" I then realized
what they were getting into and explained that I was not
American Indian, but I was from India. Recognition dawned on this person as he
exclaimed "Oh
you are Indian Indian !" Ethnicity wise I am Indian Indian and quite proud
of that fact.
