URGENT PRESS NOTE:
POLICE REFORMS WATCH [PRW] CONDEMNS SEXIST REMARKS BY MEMBER OF MAHARASTRA
WOMEN'S COMMISSION. DEMANDS THAT ALL POLITICAL APPOINTEES TO COMMISSIONS IN THE
STATE MUST BE STOPPED FORTHWITH AND EMINENT CITIZENS SHOULD BE APPOINTED
INSTEAD FOR EFFECTIVE AND SENSITIVE FUNCTIONING TOWARDS THE CONCERNS OF THE AAM
ADMI.
It is unfortunate that a Member of Maharastra Women's Commission makes sexist
remarks against Women and we condemn it. Such comments are insensitive and its
shameful that it should emanate from a woman, Dr. Asha Mirge. The Womens
Commission including Dr. Asha Mirge is supposed to uphold the dignity of women
and work towards justice for them.
We demand that the Government dismiss such a member.
The sham of appointing political appointees to all Commissions must be stopped
forthwith by the Maharashtra Government.
We also demand that members of all Commissions which represents the interests
of the aam admi should not be political appointees but noted social activists
and eminent citizens who can articulate the issues and the problems of the
concerned segments that the Commission represents.
We also demand that POLICE REFORMS need to be implemented by Maharashtra
State without any further delay.
