Khalil Ahmed mentioned some days back that plans were afoot to start language teaching classes at his Broadway (main) bookshop, which is more of a book-supermarket if one can use this term Today, when he phoned to enquire why I had not shown up for many days, he mentioned that the classes had already started.
Apparently, it's being held at their 18th June Road (Ashirwad Apts) premises for the past 4-5 days from about 2.30 pm to 6-ish, and is to go on for a month. Organising these classes are Dr Pratap Naik SJ (9850 658565) and Salvador Fernandes (9881 810832). A very good idea, considering that so many locals, expats, new settlers in Goa and scholars have long complained about how difficult it can be to learn Konkani outside the educational system in Goa itself! These classes are in the Roman script. I appreciated Khalil's openness for the same, and think that bookshops can build a win-win situation by taking on such new-but-related activities in the knowledge domain. If any of you would like to promote some literary or other related activities, I'm sure you could always suggest it to Broadways and expect a favourable reply.
