*New in Goanspirit March 10-16, 2014* *Mining Malaise - 7*
*A cap that does not fit all* Mine-owners do not want capping because they are eyeing the 1.4 billon tons of iron ore reserves (according to one estimate), and feel Goa should exploit the opportunity when the demand for ore is good, which is what they did during the boom. http://goanspirit.com/index.php/lead/462-mining-malaise-7 *Rusty Outlook for Iron Ore* *But do the lobbyists know?* Watching international business channels over the past month, two items became obvious to us, the surplus in what is called global seaborne iron ore, against the backdrop of the slowdown in Chinese demand, actually pushed prices up. Contradictory as this may appear, Bloomberg, citing data from Shanghai Steelhome Information Technology, reported that inventories at Chinese ports were 100.2 million tons in the last week of February. http://goanspirit.com/index.php/bits-bytes/463-rusty-outlook-for-iron-ore *86 National Tourism Awards (2012-13) won* *Goa not in the picture* A total number of 86 awards were presented in various categories and Goa despite all the hype is nowhere in the picture. Imagine 86 awards to be won, the almost hysterical daily media hype, millions spent on publicity and foreign junkets; and yet Goa won nothing, zero, zilch, zip. It almost looks like the experts are saying '*maka naka* Goa' which apparently is what a lot of European countries are saying too after the Russian invasion. Clearly, things have gotten out of hand. http://goanspirit.com/index.php/footprint-india/461-86-national-tourism-awards-2012-13-won -- Lionel Messias Editor, *Goan Spirit*, *Goa's Spirited Online Weekly Magazine.* Website:www.goanspirit.com Worked for the best: Goa Today, Gomantak Times, Herald, Mid-Day, The Pioneer, Indian Express (Bangalore), Economic Times (Chennai, Hyderabad), Newstime (Hyderabad), Gulf News (Hyderabad) 125-E, Bellem, Velsao, P.O.
