The People of Chinchinim Village salute these pioneers for the proliferation of Portuguese Primary Education in the Village and beyond. Their efforts, dedication, commitment and sacrifices are worthy of our appreciation and recognition. Both the day and residential schools provided a convenient opportunity for learners. They prepared students for the public, Govt, examination in Permeiro and Segundo Grau .These qualifications enabled the students to enter English medium schools or First year of 7 years of Lyceum at Panjim with admission test.
Prof. Octaviano Faustino da Costa was married to Maria do Rosario Cota da Costa. Born at Sucaldem, Chinchinim on 15-2-1912 and passed away on 22-11-1981,He studied at Rachol seminary after completing Primary education, as it was the best education available. He lost his 2 brothers to the scourge of Cholera., and did not go back to Seminary. He established a private, primary Portuguese day school in 1937. He successfully prepared students to appear for public Government examination in Permeiro and Segundo Grau. As the students were from distant places, he was forced to provide boarding facilities. After liberation and for sometimes he continued with English medium Primary school, but had to give up due to his advancing age. He leaves behind his family Thelma,Fatima, Ida,Safira,Bernabe,Odette,Aqua Viva and Goretti, who are well settled and their children well placed in their careers.
