Seeing teenagers congregate in secluded or relatively quiet places to drink,
consume drugs and
gamble, makes one wonder where they get the money to indulge in such
activities. Youngstrs riding fairly new motorcycles or scooters, sometimes
three on a single vehicle, go roaring by to get to their
destination. Bad weather does not seem to bother them. Police patrols do not
bother them.
In one situation I have consistently observed that as though they have received
a signal, they suddenly
take off. A few minutes later a Police Patrol vehicle appears and parks in the
spot to "intercept" the
drinking teenagers. After an hour or two the Police vehicle will leve. Sure
enough, in 5 minutes or so the teenagers are back, as though some form of
communication must be taking place.
Growing up, I did not have a single paisa in my pocket, and pocket money was an
unheard of concept.
My parents could not even afford to get me a bicycle. In these days of
affluence, kids have everything.
But do they have the work ethic and drive to make something of themselves for
their own future ?
Occasionally, I see a girl on the pinion seat with her face covered up like the
Taliban, so she is not
recognizable.
Is this the future of Goa ???
