You seem to choose not to understand that the raising of consciousness
about issues like the evil of caste are a prerequisite to undermine the
forces sustaining such an evil. Or is it a case that you prefer to fudge the
issue and thus ensure it remains well in place as it has done for centuries?
How on earth do you think that sati, slavery and other similar evils were
eradicated? First, there was a long period of consciousness raising with
increasing intensity ---something you have been consistently trying to
thwart on Goanet. I really do question your motives in your endeavour to
bypass the issue of caste among Catholic Goans and I recall it took me ages
to get you to finally agree that caste belief and Catholic belief were
incompatible. Please rest assured Gilbert, that the 'assault' on caste
belief among Catholic Goans is on the ascendancy and is winning the battle
slowly but surely. For instance, I have had private responses from
Goanetters who indicated that they had never thought of casteism as racism
until I drew their attention to it and also that there was absolutely no
scientific evidence for the existence of caste that is used to oppress
millions in India. Do you never read about these things in your cosy redoubt
in North America?
