Mario
I am glad you have come in again on Goanet about the "abomination" (your
word) of caste and how it operates in Christian/Catholic churches.
As you may recall, I had written about this issue on Goanet about the time I
had received useful material from you re the article you quoted below.
I'm sure that you also know that I sent Fr Loiola five questions to respond
to on 29/1/07 and am still awaiting his response on the
complicity/accommodation of the Catholic Church in Goa with caste belief
and practise. Perhaps you will also note my response to Gilbert Lawrence on
this issue that I sent moments before this post and I hope he will read the
article you quote carefully from his redoubt in Attica, USA.

Subject: [Goanet] We Goans are Unique ! We Are the only Catholic
Communitythat's Stratified !
In a recent post
http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2007-March/055435.html
to counter an allegation by Carmo D'Cruz that Goans are the only Catholic
community that is stratified by caste I singled out the Catholics in
Kerala for practicing extreme caste discrimination. In reviewing my
source I found it referred to the Catholics in Tamil Nadu rather than in
Kerala.
In my post on March 14, 2005
http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2005-March/025967.html
I said, in part:
"All Goanetters interested in the discussion on the diabolical caste
system in India should get a copy of the Jesuit magazine, America,
February 14, 2005 issue, and read the very current article on page 11
titled "'Dalit' means broken" by John Francis Izzo, S.J.
