John Gomes: Whilst I agree about our FDA, I would not be too sure about the stuff available in our Pharmacies! You all may have heard about the Ranbaxy case in USA and even a sincere and experienced Raj Vaidya of Hindu Pharmacy says these days he frankly couldn't vouch for most of the stuff available or he is selling.
Response: I found the above view rather contradictory. If the FDA is honest and doing a good job, then there should not be any spurious or inferior medicines available for sale or consumption at any retail outlet or hospital. The job of the FDA is not merely to regulate the pharma industry but also to ensure that medicines are stored, distributed and dispensed with by stockists and chemists as per the regulations. They have powers to test, seize and prosecute sellers of misbranded or inferior drugs. Regards, Marshall
