I know of Chrystal Gomes, of Toronto and Tanzania who did not let MS define herself.
She was aired on a few national programs of various broadcasters and performed at several Goan and other functions in this city. She might not have the reputation of Russell Peters but would have been, while still active, at the stage where RS was 5 years before he achieved fame in the USA. One doesn't hear of her these days but hope she is still fighting fit. Roland.
