WANTED: No more BAD!
All praise deservedly goes to the Herald team for the article No Criminals in Panjim Elections. The team has lighted the torch of optimism and the voters now have to show themselves for what they truly are! Former CM Manohar Parrikar, the Panjim MLA who was re-elected several times over, like our previous Prime Minister has a reputation for being personally incorruptible, and people by and large, admire both men for it. Panjim reminds me of south Mumbai, a constituency of educated people. As the voters re-elected Manohar Parrikar again and again, there is hope for optimism without being unrealistic. However, a note of caution. Nowadays, in Goa the most popular language , more popular than Marathi and Konkani or any other, is money! We all know, when money talks, truth silently walks away. Maybe St . Francis Xavier, on this occasion, might come to the aid of voters as all roads in Goa presently lead to Old Goa, the center of the exposition. Maybe the religious euphoria will have a good impact on the Panjim electorate, and then maybe not. We need to be cautious of BAD - bank account development - the favorite pastime of our politicians and vested interest groups. Bribe today, and reap a rich harvest tomorrow! One thing is for sure: if an honest Assembly election cannot happen in Panjim, then it probably cannot happen anywhere else in Goa. If Panjim succeeds, then there is hope for Goa. As they say, all we have to do now is wait and see!
