It is almost a month that Laxmikant Parsekar assumed the office as Chief
Minister of Goa. He is yet to move into his official residence “Mahalaxmi
“at Althinho which still seems to be in Manohar Parrikar’s domain.

Laxmikant Parsekar is quite intelligent and well educated. In 1979 at
Dhempe College in Miramar we both contested elections and while he was
elected as the General Secretary for the college section, I had the
privilege to serve as the General Secretary for the High Secondary Unit. We
were well guided by our then Principal late Prof G.V. Nadkarni.

For Laxmikant Parsekar to perform as Chief Minister he should be given the
freedom and independence to govern. But it seems Manohar Parrikar wants him
to function under his shadow and tight grip. Almost the entire of Manohar
Parrikar’s staff while he was the Chief Minister have been now been stuffed
in Laxmikant Parsekar’s office. Is it only the Chief Minister that has
changed? And with no freedom to choose his own staff.

Goa needs to move ahead with a new vision and Laxmikant Parsekar should be
given a free hand to deliver. If he ends up being a mere dummy Chief
Minister it may not be “Acche din” for Goa.
