Addressing the gathering at a Concelebrated Mass held to mark the blessing of the new wing of Shanti Avedna Sadan on Tuesday evening, Cardinal Gracias reminded that father can indeed do wonders. “ The day of blessing of the new hospice at Shanti Avedna Sadan is significant, being a day before the feast of St Francis Xavier who gave Goans the great gift of faith, to belong to community and work. The essence of faith is love and service and the expression of faith is service rendering hope and comfort”, Cardinal Gracias said. He praised the Holy Cross Sisters and the staff working for the patients with love and care at the hospice. “ The unseen hand has done wonders and that at the time of modernization of hospice there were no difficulties or problems faced as God is with us”, he added. Later after blessing the new premises of the hospice a felicitation function was held in honour of Cardinal at which Sr Fatima welcomed the gathering. Dr Luizito D’Souza, Managing trustee in his address also said that an unseen hand has been helping in the work and emphasized that faith can create wonders. “ In the last 28 years, the hospice ran entirely on donations from well- wishers and have taken care of more than 25,000 terminally ill cancer patients free of cost”, he said, while thanking all the patrons, donors and well wishers. On the occasion, certifi- cates of appreciation were distributed at the hands of Cardinal Gracias to Milind Sambhare, Mumbai, architect and his staff, Nilesh Modi, Mumbai, legal adviser, Pascoal Barboza Noronha, engineer and contractor, Lyndon Monteiro, Conceicao alias Concy Fernandes, sarpanch Loutolim, Maria Monteiro, ward panch, Jose Fernandes, former sarpanch and James Mathew, senior town planner for cooperation rendered. Later speaking to the media, Dr D’souza said that a milestone has been achieved today at Shanti Avedna Sadan, Loutolim. “ The people of Loutolim should be proud to have such a facility,” he added.
