It is propagated and it is widely believed that church in Goa is the promoter of culture. But those who believe so have not seen the other side picture of the church. The church in Goa is really a promoter of Culture and is its destructor is requires to be minutely ascertained. That from my studies and past experience I have come to the conclusion that church in Goa is the destructor of culture rather then its promoter. Presently those who are following Catholic religion hardly have culture left and for the destruction of culture from the catholic community the Church in Goa is responsible and they have to accept it. They involved in destruction of Culture of catholic community of Goa as they may wants to westernize the culture of Goa and unless and until they destroy the local culture cannot do so is that may be their view. The community among the catholic which preserved and nurtured the culture for future posterity are the Christian Gawdas. The culture of the Gawdas was center around the Mand. But the church or its priest claiming that Mand is a devil place destroyed the Mand and along with it destroyed that entire culture/heritage that was associated with the Mand. In Quepem taluka the destruction of mand was started somewhere in 1993 and was completed in 1997 by the then Fanatic priest appoint the churches at Quepem. I call them fanatic because they don’t know to respect other culture, and such people are called fanatic and I don’t other word. Recently when I meet Fr. Luis Coutinho who was responsible for the destruction of mand at Amabulim at his newly appointed church at Tolecato Salcete as to know in destroying the mand it was his decision or is it the decision of church as a whole. Fr. Luis Coutinho informed me that in destroying the Mand/Culture it was the decision of the church as a whole and it was not his individual decision. The latest murder of Mand is done in 2014 that is the Mand of villagers of Avedem Quepem. It is a known fact that at the cost of the Culture of Gawdas of Avedem , Goa has earned name and fame and earned foreign exchange , but that culture also could escape from the brutality of the church. >From the above one has to judge whether the Church in Goa is the promoter of >Culture or is its destructor?
